Aside from a wide variety of tire types and sizes, competitive, fluctuating market prices further complicate the issue.
Our COR Wheels team, a manufacturer of forged custom wheels and tires founded in 06′, has proposed to tackle this ongoing matter with our 2 annual winter-summer performance tests.
2023 keeps the tradition going, and we have concluded our winter test in January. Now, let’s see how the 2023 COR wheel tire test in summer comes out.
2023 COR Wheel Tire Test Information
Event name: 2023 COR Wheels Tire Test
Duration: 10 days from 28th, June to 7th, July, 2023
Location: 10877 NW 33rd Street, Doral, FL

The highly-awaited test kicked off from 28th June to 7th July, spanning ten successive days in total. All performance checkups were carried out at 10877 NEW 33rd Street (Doral, FL), the same as in previous years, and drew more than two thousand spectators to the testing site during the process.
Behind the performance tire tests are the core members of the COR Wheel team, renowned for over 15 years of expertise and dedication in the automobile tire field. And leading our team is Mr. Robert Herrara, the COR Wheel president and ex-Carlsson Mercedes sales director, who resumed his role as the director and supervisor of each 2023 test ride.
Tire Testing Process and Criteria
Tires Used
We have singled out 196 best-selling tires in America (up until the first quarter of 2022) whose origins reside in several worldwide-recognized brands, such as BFGoodrich, Bridgestone, Continental, Cooper, Falken, Firestone, General, Goodyear, Hankook, Michelin, Pirelli, and more.
Our goal is to confirm if their performances and quality standards are up to word of mouth – and whether these labels can keep things the way they are or need to step up their tire designs.
Tire Sizes Used
An average tire model arrives in more than 30+ sizes and diameters.
However, due to time constraints and weather limitations, only a few selected tire sizes were introduced to the tests. Their overall results are expected to represent other remaining size options in terms of performance and durability.

Vehicle Used
Like with tires, the COR Wheels team only selected premium car models to pair with the control tire sets. Most importantly, they are all the latest models (2022), ensuring the tires are evaluated in light of the most recent driving systems and features.
Two of the most highly-acclaimed car brands in the world, Toyota and Honda take up the most spots on the list – followed by Jeep, Subaru, Ram, Tesla, and Chevy.

Evaluation Criteria
All chosen tires were assessed and evaluated based on six criteria – each of which is influenced by other important factors as follows:
1. Dry Score:
- Corner Stability: How the tires hold their spots during high-speed cornering under dry conditions.
- Dry Traction: How the tire pressure grips dry paved surfaces, even at maximum speed.
- Steering Response: How precise and responsive the steering systems are to allow more accurate maneuvering. Rolling resistance and cush core are also factored in.
2. Wet Score:
- Hydroplaning Resistance: Examining how the tire inserts channel water off the contact patch in wet conditions to prevent hydroplaning.
- Wet Traction: How they maintain traction and grip on waterlogged surfaces to ensure safe braking and handling.
3. Winter/Snow Score:
July is summertime, so we will refer to our test in January to make an overall evaluation here:
- Light Snow Traction: Assessing the tire’s performance on road surfaces covered by thin snow.
- Deep Snow Traction: Observing how the tire copes with extra snow demands and deeper snow blankets.
- Ice Traction: Ice surfaces, the most dangerous of all, reflect whether the tire’s traction can transcend severe winter conditions.
4. Average Comfort Score:
- Comfortable Ride: We tested whether the tire worked well with the car’s suspension system to offer a smooth and sweet ride.
- Noise: This refers to the noise level generated by these tires under different conditions (city roads, highways, off-road, etc.). Gauging the exact noise level from the cabin prepares drivers better for longer trips.
5. Off-road Score:
- Dirt Traction: Whether the tire can still grip gravel roads and dirt surfaces.
- Sand Traction: How the tires propel the car systems on sandy roads and challenging terrains to keep accidents at bay.
- Mud Traction: Determining if the tires easily lose traction and get stuck under muddy conditions.
- Rock Traction: Rugged rocks are often associated with difficult off-road terrains. Whether the tires can survive these rocky surfaces determine their overall off-road abilities.
6. Treadwear Score:
We assess the tire’s durability and longevity, using tread wear rate as one of the indicators. Other structure designs and features (ex: extra spokes, spare spokes, core moto, alpine climbs, etc.) are also considered, depending on tire type.
After gathering the test results of these 6 pointers, our team divided 196 tires into 4 main categories:
- Touring tires
- Performance tires
- All-terrain tires
- Winter/snow tires
The last step is to score them on a 10-point scale, and the result will be published on our website after 7th, July, 2023.
